- It is with great pleasure that I formally accept your invitation to be patron of Malaika Kids. This acceptance is a recognition by myself and the High Commission of Tanzania of the noble work Malaika Kids is doing for the under privileged children in Tanzania.
Malaika Kids UK committee in The Hague
| On January 28th the Malaika kids UK committee visited The Hague to meet the Dutch committee and agree on the way forward. They met various volunteers - including the architect who has experience building other children’s villages in Africa. Drawn from a group of Alumni of the London Business School, they have a wide experience gained in various organisations. They are using their skills and contacts to build a future for Malaika Kids. The two intensive days of discussions covered many aspects such as the objectives, organisation structure, current status and plans for the village in Mkuranga and the water plan. A lot of consideration was given to the best and most cost effective way of providing for the ever growing number of orphans. There was also a strong focus on education in order to help the children become self sufficient. Ideas for fund raising were also brainstormed. |

| The design of the new village was discussed in detail with the architect. They looked at aspects such as: the new village not being in too much contrast with the existing local buildings, the low maintenance required and sustainability. It’s important that the village fits with the surroundings and doesn’t exude a luxury that could cause jealousy in the neighbourhood. The walls do not need to be plastered because the blocks made locally will be sufficient. The floor will be neatly laid in cement. The meeting was a big success and we are hoping that other countries will follow suit. If you are interested in helping Malaika Kids, please contact us! |
