Message from our Patron
It is with great pleasure that I formally accept your invitation to be patron of Malaika Kids. This acceptance is a recognition by myself and the High Commission of Tanzania of the noble work Malaika Kids is doing for the under privileged children in Tanzania.

Competition to stimulate study and sport

In cooperation with Ustawi Wa Jamii (welfare office) and other children’s homes, Malaika Kids wants to stimulate study and sport amongst the children. For these reasons, on 10 November and 12 December 2007 meetings were organized in our children’s home with representatives from 21 other children’s homes in Dar es Salaam and surrounding areas. Two representatives of Ustawi Wa Jamii were also present.

The Malaika Kids football team is preparing for a real competition with 21 other children’s homes.
One idea was to organize competitions between the children’s homes in various school subjects (arithmetic, language, science, biology, geography) and sports. Each children’s home sends the child or children that is/are best in one of the subjects or sport. The expectation is that adding a competitive and social element will create an extra stimulus for the children to learn or to play a sport.
The first competition is planned for January. The children find it very challenging and are extremely enthusiastic to get going. The plan seems to be working!
