- It is with great pleasure that I formally accept your invitation to be patron of Malaika Kids. This acceptance is a recognition by myself and the High Commission of Tanzania of the noble work Malaika Kids is doing for the under privileged children in Tanzania.
Building of the first cluster under way!
| Building activity at Mkuranga is hectic! The foundation frameworks have been set out for the first Phase. These are wooden shuttering, lined with steel mesh and a waterproof membrane, into which the concrete is poured. | ||
| A Laser instrument is being used to check and monitor the levels, which will be important for the rainwater management system for the whole Village. As soon as the cement has set, a start will be made with the walls of Hydraform blocks. These are clay, sand and cement bricks moulded on site, which stack to build walls without mortar. The foundations of the shower block and kitchens will follow shortly. | ||
| At the same time as building the first cluster, the schoolroom to honour the memory of 19 year old Scott Robinson will be built. That will be used for remedial teaching for our children. This is an absolute must because the educational background of most of the children is very poor – if indeed they have any educational background at all, because abandoned orphans have no chance to go to school. It will be used during the day by the smaller children who will regularly take part in theme-based activities directed at learning through play, as preparation for going to local school. Then it will be used for remedial teaching for our school age kids, to help them catch up. In the future vocational courses will also be given for the older children, and also for the local inhabitants of Mkuranga. | ||
