| Why sponsor with Malaika Kids? | ||
| . | ||
| Because we are different from the big international charities – we are a small charity and our overheads are miniscule but our ambitions are big and together we can really make a difference | ||
| We are dedicated to providing long term care to children orphaned or abandoned in one of Tanzania's major cities, Dar es Salaam, many of whom are severely traumatised | ||
| We will care for these children in the widest sense of the word and ensure that they receive an education and skills training to help break the cycle of poverty and dependence | ||
| Malaika Kids UK is staffed entirely by trustees and volunteers who pay their own expenses; in this way we can guarantee that all donations go in full to help care for the children | ||

| Malaika Kids Tanzania | ||
| Malaika Kids Tanzania is our charity in Tanzania that runs the Children’s Home and the Relatives Support Programme (RSP). In our Children’s Home we receive children, via the Tanzanian Government Welfare Service,. They may have been found on the streets or brought in by police or relatives who can no longer care for them. We then provide them with a home under the care of an experienced housemother, we feed and clothe them and provide any needed medical care. If they are old enough we provide the uniforms, books etc and transport so that they can go to school. Many have never had any previous education. In the meantime we spend weeks and months if necessary searching for a relative who could look after the child with our support. If a suitable foster relative is found within our Dar es Salaam operating area the child moves onto our Relatives Support Programme where we provide food, clothes, uniforms and books to support their care with the relative. Our mediators visit the child and the new family regularly to ensure that he or she is being well cared for and is attending school. Our ambition is to provide much increased capacity to help local orphans. We are building a Children’s Village in Mkuranga, 40 kms south west of Dar es Salaam, which will eventually house 320 children. At the same time we are expanding the Relatives Support Programme which may eventually support 1,000 children in the community. |
