Jonathan Dimbleby becomes Malaika Kids Ambassador

Jonathan Dimbleby says: "I have been closely involved with humanitarian relief in Africa for over 30 years. Malaika Kids is a new volunteer led charity with high drive and professionalism, and a well thought out programme of orphan care. I recommend you to support their efforts".

Jonathan Dimbleby has chaired BBC Radio 4¹s Any Questions? and Any Answers? since 1987.

He took his degree in philosophy at University College , London and began his career as a television and radio reporter for BBC Bristol in 1969, moving on to Radio 4's The World at One in 1970. His 1973 TV report on the Wollo Famine in Ethiopia gave him early warning of the deep problems affecting Africa, a continent he has covered as a journalist on many subsequent occasions. He is currently preparing a new series on Africa for BBC2.

Jonathan is also an author of five books. In 1994 he wrote and presented the documentary on the Prince of Wales: Charles, The Private Man, the Public Role and published his book, The Prince of Wales: A Biography. In 1997 the BBC screened The Last Governor, his series on the final five years of British rule in Hong Kong and he published a book of the same name. In 2008 his five part series Russia A Journey with Jonathan Dimbleby was broadcast by BBC2 and his book Russia A Journey to the Heart of a Land and its People was published to accompany the series.

For a number of years he ran an organic farm near Bath, and was President of the Soil Association (1997-2008) which leads the organic food movement. He is also President of Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) where his keen knowledge of the developing world is invaluable. He is Vice-President (and past President) of the Council for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE) and a trustee of Dimbleby Cancer Care.

Malaika Kids welcomes him as its new Ambassador, and looks forward to a long and fruitful relationship.
