In 2008 his five part series Russia A Journey with Jonathan Dimbleby was broadcast by BBC2 and his book Russia A Journey to the Heart of a Land and its People was published to accompany the series. For a number of years he ran an organic farm near Bath, and was President of the Soil Association (1997-2008) which leads the organic food movement. He is also President of Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) where his keen knowledge of the developing world is invaluable.
