Message from our Patron
It is with great pleasure that I formally accept your invitation to be patron of Malaika Kids. This acceptance is a recognition by myself and the High Commission of Tanzania of the noble work Malaika Kids is doing for the under privileged children in Tanzania.

Our approach

Our mission
We want to give orphans in Tanzania a future. We want to take them off the street and offer a “home”. A home where they feel safe, where they can become children again, and where they are given regular meals and a proper education. We want them to grow up into young independent adults with a future to look forward to.
We aim to do this in two ways; by the Relatives Support Programme and by building and running Malaika Children’s villages.
Relatives Support Programme
As soon as an orphan is placed in our care, we try to locate family members during a period of up to two years. If this succeeds, the family situation is assessed. Wherever possible the child is placed with his wider family. Usually the family will receive ongoing support, financial or material, from Malaika Kids.
Malaika children’s villages
A Malaika children’s village is designed to accommodate 320 children. The aim is to offer the children a normal life again. Therefore the children’s villages will work with a unique living concept based on family houses. Each family house will have room for 10 children from the ages of 1 to 20 years old. In this way the normal family structure is replicated as closely as possible. A ‘parent’ cares for the children and gives them guidance. Each child grows up with older and younger ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’. Family ties are created which promote the health and well being of the children.
Organisation
Malaika Kids is a growing international network of charities. Malaika Kids Tanzania is responsible for carrying out the Relatives Support Programme, the purchase of land, the contracting out and control of the building process, taking in the children and running of the children’s villages. The other Malaika Kids organisations raise funds in order to support these activities.
No overhead costs
To us, it’s crucial that donations are spent on what they were intended for; the orphans of Tanzania. For that reason all activities outside Tanzania are carried out by volunteers. Also a growing number of companies are supporting the project by providing their knowledge, products and/or manpower free of charge.
Financial control
We offer transparency in the way donations are made and donors can direct their donations to fund specific parts of the project, either for construction or for support of the orphans.

Use of internet
Internet is intensively used for:
Information Donors and interested parties who wish to receive regular newsletters on the progress of the project.
Control Not only do we have a responsibility to our donors, but we also need to maintain a strong financial control over all activities; to do this we have developed an extensive intranet system.
Communication In the future we will facilitate communication between (groups of) donors with (groups of) children in the children’s villages.
