Message from our Patron
It is with great pleasure that I formally accept your invitation to be patron of Malaika Kids. This acceptance is a recognition by myself and the High Commission of Tanzania of the noble work Malaika Kids is doing for the under privileged children in Tanzania.

Voluntary work by professionals

In other articles in this dossier we have explained how the master plan for Malaika children’s village Mkuranga works. Elaborating the details of this plan would have been impossible without the enthusiastic efforts, (without any payment) , of the many professionals and specialist companies who have put their shoulders under this project. Below you can read how much work has already been undertaken and who has helped us.
The architect and motor behind the master plan
Architect Kees Dwarshuis was involved from the very beginning Malaika Kids. With his knowledge as an architect, his earlier experience with small scale building projects in Africa and his unending enthusiasm he is an important motor behind the realisation of the master plan. He has not only drawn up the original design (and adapted this later to the characteristics of the land purchased), he has also persuaded numerous people and companies to provide expertise and manpower free of charge for Mailaka children’s village.
Drawings: Hoek & de Wit Architects
Hoek & the Wit Architects of Delft have made all the drawings for the master plan. They have also developed the whole plan digitally and worked it out in 3D. Elsewhere on this web site you can find great examples of this. They have also made available to the architect consulting hours to support the detailed working out of parts of the plan.
Drawing up the water and drainage installations: Oranjewoud
Drawing up the plans for supply and drainage of water was in hands of the company, Oranjewoud (in Oosterhout). Calculations of the sources, storage and distribution of clean water, the installations in the shower blocks, processing of waste water in septic tanks, rain water drainage – in short everything in the master plan that involved water was worked out in detail by Oranjewoud.
Specifications for construction: Adviesbureau ABT
Adviesbureau ABT of Delft has helped with the specifying for the construction of various buildings (rafters,, foundations, supporting walls and more) a ‘bill of quantity’, an overview of all necessary parts and materials on the basis of which local contractors in Tanzania can quote.
Specifications for electro-technical installations: HE-advis
HE-advisers of Rotterdam made hours and manpower available for working out the specifications for all elektrotechnical installations. In a later phase they will advise on the air conditioning-installation for the library and computer education building.
Surveying: The Hague- department of planning and development
Two employees of the Planning & Development department of the Hague City Council mapped out the territory and the surrounding terrain, surveying all the contours of the land, and also every tree and all the cassava fields. This was all made possible by Swiss International Airlines, who paid the flight of both surveyors and their equipment, and the firm Interbeton, who provided the necessary scaffolding.
