Message from our Patron
It is with great pleasure that I formally accept your invitation to be patron of Malaika Kids. This acceptance is a recognition by myself and the High Commission of Tanzania of the noble work Malaika Kids is doing for the under privileged children in Tanzania.

Building can begin!

The building permit has been issued. It may only be a piece of paper, but for us it’s a very important piece of paper. This gives us the right to begin building the children’s village in Mkuranga.

After the lengthy process of acquiring the Certificate of Occupancy, which gives us the right to use the land for 99 years, acquiring the building permit only took two months.

Now we can start building. We will begin with laying the necessary infra-structure for the first phase. This includes the main road, a well, and the first part of the first plateau. As the land is sloping, the village will be built on three plateaus differing in height by two meters between each.

With the first plateau leveled, the first building can be erected. This building will be used as a garage and central kitchen in the future. But during the building phase, it will be used for storage (garage part with the big doors) and office for the building foreman (kitchen part).
After many conflicting and unclear quotes from contractors, we have decided to purchase all the building materials ourselves and to have semi-finished goods made; that will then be stored on our land. Only when all the materials for the first cluster are available, will we invite a contractor to begin building. This way of working has two main advantages; we negotiate on price with the suppliers and we have more control on quality of both the semi-finished goods and on the building itself.
