- It is with great pleasure that I formally accept your invitation to be patron of Malaika Kids. This acceptance is a recognition by myself and the High Commission of Tanzania of the noble work Malaika Kids is doing for the under privileged children in Tanzania.
Building has begun!
| Now that the building permits have been acquired, the infra-structure is complete, the water tower has been erected and the well has been drilled, there is nothing to stop us building and that is exactly what we’ve been doing the last couple of weeks: building! The first building, currently being built, is the so-called G2/3 building. This building covers a surface area of 22 by 11 meters and will in the future serve as the central kitchen and garage (workplace). |
||
| During the first building phases of the village, it will serve as the site office and storage for building materials and semi-finished goods. For this first building we have decided that the contractor will be responsible for purchasing of all building materials. | ||
| For the other buildings we do the purchasing ourselves and then storing the goods in this first building. As soon as all building materials and semi-finished goods are on site, the contractor can begin building. This method has two advantages: we will be in charge of price negotiations and we will gain more control over the quality. | ||
| At this moment the cement foundations have been laid and the required Hydraform blocks have been made. Hydraform blocks are special building blocks. They have a profile which allows them to be stacked on top of each other without being cemented. This system has been specially developed by the South African company Hydraform for the African market in order to build simply but well at low cost. | ||
| Advantages are that the Hydraform blocks can be manufactured on site, earth from our own land can be used and that the blocks are thick, which helps keep the buildings cool. We expect this first building to be finished by the end of April. |
